A Different View
I’ve spend the past week or so in Florida prepping for the final launch of the Space Shuttle Program. After bad weather earlier in the week and a forecast that we were sure wouldn’t allow for a launch, space shuttle Atlantis embarked on the 135th and final mission of Shuttle Program. I feel privileged to have been able be part of this chapter of American history and see the shuttle fly for the final time. Now onto landing!
July 4, 2011, our nation’s birthday and the day that the crew of STS-135 arrived at the Kennedy Space Center for the final launch of the Space Shuttle Program. I don’t think it’s sinking in quite yet that this final launch of the program, but it will soon enough.
RSS rollback is scheduled for this afternoon around 2pm, however some weather is moving into the area and it’s looking like rain later this afternoon and all day tomorrow. Maybe she’ll fly on Sunday…
After making her way to the VAB the day before, Atlantis was lifted early on the morning of May 18.
In just about 11 days Atlantis will roll out to pad 39A for the final mission of the space shuttle program as Endeavour returns from her mission in space.
