Long Time Coming

So here’s some stuff that I’ve been meaning to post for a bit, but just hadn’t gotten around to it.

My sister graduated from high school about a week ago and of course I got to be the one taking pictures. Â

I also went out with one of my friends and shot some pictures for her. Â So here are a few photos that are a bit different than all of the sports photos that seem to consume this blog…

Art

Today brought a little bit of work for my sister and a bit of a makeshift studio in our living room on a couch. Â These and other images are for her art portfolio as she applies to Illinois State University.

I figured that this would give me the biggest problem, a pair of shoes that would throw shadows like crazy. Â The solution was nothing other than one lamp adding light behind and my on camera flash pointed straight up with a white card on the back side. Â The white ceiling in our living room helped bounce light back, but all in all. Â Two lights, no shadows, and all on the first attempt, sweet!

Dallas Day 3 / Cotton Bowl

Well folks, it was a huge day for the Missouri Tigers yesterday with a 38-7 victory over the Arkansas Razorbacks. Â Tony Temple had an amazing day setting two Cotton Bowl Records.

Now for the bad, the set-up at the stadium was less than ideal, there were these foam barrier things ringing the field that all of the photographers had to stand behind, this severely limited the idea of being able to kneel, or in my case, since the field had a very small crown, shoot from anÂ extremelyÂ low angle. Â To top it off, I couldn’t go out and shoot the coin toss, that really irked me. Â Post-game was even more fun, the red-shirts really let all the ‘power’ they have go to their head, I saw them pushing photographers back as they tried to walk behind the team at the trophy presentation, no where near TV or anything.

But all in all, great game, good facilities, and amazing photos. Â Now it’s back to Chicago on United Airlines later this afternoon.

Dallas Day 2

Well today started out with a trip to go pick-up ourÂ credentialsÂ and ended up running all around Dallas between two different hotels before finally getting them.

Visiting Dealey Plaza wasÂ interestingÂ to visit this afternoon. Â There were quite a few people there today. Â We were going to go to the museum, but with the limited time that was available and with the length of the line to get in, we decided that we’ll try to go back and visit tomorrow.

Dallas Day 1

Well, I made it to Dallas last night, flying out of ORD on United Airlines. Â We finally made it out of Chicago after switching planes at the gate and then upon arrival at DFW we had the delightful experience of sitting on the tarmac for about 40 minutes before a gate opened up. Â The waiting continued as I had theÂ nerve-rackingÂ experience of having my checked bag being one of the last onto the baggage claimÂ carousel, thankfully I have all of my luggage.

Another note, I didn’t have any issues with any of the batteries that I brought with me, but we’ll see what the TSA has in store when I fly home on Jan 2 after the new restrictions come into effect…

Now to enjoy my two days before the Cotton Bowl on New Years.

Basketball in St. Louis

Missouri made the short trip to St. Louis to play Illinois at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis on Saturday and I made the drive down to St. Louis to cover it after having missed out last year. Â

Oh how this proves timing is everything, or maybe I should have been shooting a little wider, either way, a great emotional photo ruined for the simple fact that it’s missing the ball… oh well.

Overall it was a blast shooting in the Scottrade Center, good light, the crowd was nice and loud like it should be, and I was even on TV a few times. Â The onlyÂ negativeÂ is that I was fallen upon by a player and that resulted in the front end of my 24-70 being thrown just a bit out of wack… oh well, it was bound to happen eventually.

Men’s Basketball and Women’s Gymnastics

I decided it was time to get out my tilt and shift lens and have some fun when the Tigers took on the Purdue Boilermakers on Saturday afternoon at Mizzou Arena. Â The Tigers were overcome by a late surge from the Boilermakers but came back late in the 2nd half to win 73-63.

Gymnastics season is upon us. Â The Tigers held the annual inter-squad meet this evening. Â Now if only I had an 85 f/1.2…

Women’s Basketball

The Tigers defeated Mississippi Valley State tonight 69-52. Â More basketball tomorrow with a mens game against Purdue and then on to the inter-squad gymnastics meet.
